ASTI Dubai offers this Higher International Diploma in Information Technology with the approval of KHDA ,Govt.of Dubai along with TVET,NQA & QAD. Higher International Diploma in Information Technology qualification is designed to prepare learners for last year of Bachelors’s Degree or a high paying career in the information technology industry.This course is practical & skill oriented which makes the student very acceptable to the engineering industry.

Course

Higher International Diploma in Information Technology

Level of Course
HID is a Level 5 qualification (equivalent to the second year of a UK Bachelor’s Degree). There is an embedded level 4 exit qualification.
Number of Credit Hours
Upon successful completion of the course the student will have completed at least 15 units and 240 + credits. On completion of Level 4 the student will have completed at least 8 units and 120 + credits.

The HID is a level-5 qualification delivered over two years, the first year at level 4 and the second year at level 5. If a student opts to take the HID, the student would be eligible for a Higher International Diploma after successful completion of a minimum of 15 modules.

Intended Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
  • Identify and resolve challenging issues related to computer science environment using the practical skill and theoretical knowledge gained.
  • To impart hands on knowledge on computer hardware so that the student is aware of the problem statement and provides an effective solution.
  • Apply Engineering Mathematics, Science and Engineering principles to Identify, Analyze, Formulate and solve the Complex Engineering and Industrial problems.
  • To provide appropriate network solutions for the clients based on their requirements by implementing the gained networking skills.
  • Understand the legal practices involved with engineering solutions and provide solutions with societal, Environmental, Global and Economic impacts.
  • Apply the knowledge of software programming to develop various applications and solutions which stimulate and smart work and increase the scope of Earning.
  • Seamlessly apply the acquired IT skills, Knowledge of Modern Engineering tools and Techniques of Engineering practices and serve as a critical resource.
  • To have command over the technical communication by understanding the resource and necessary progress in software developments.

The Level 4 is made up of 120 credits and be completed over a years’ time. The Higher Internation Diploma a combination of both levels 4 and 5 and is made up of 240 credits, this qualification is usually studied full-time/part-time over two years.

The award is made up of 15 units: Mandatory core units are:

Technical Drawings with Engineering Graphics

  • ULO1 - Use the appropriate tool to develop technical drawings
  • ULO2 - Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings.
  • ULO3 - Ability to provide the required information in technical drawing according to process and operation.

Workshop and General Safety

  • ULO1 – Ability to select appropriate tool and process for the required application
  • ULO2 – Ability to understand basic operation in manufacturing and production
  • ULO3 - Ability to maintain a safety procedures and use safety tools and equipment in engineering practice.

IT Application for Engineers

  • ULO1 - Ability to create, select or apply appropriate software tools to improve the performance.
  • ULO2 - Develop documents and report preparation skills for various engineering activities such as approval, quotation, design, and estimation.
  • ULO3 - Ability to performance analytical calculation, synthesis and interpret the data.

Fundamentals of Computer Science

  • UL01 – To understand the Hardware and Software basics to solve a problem statement.
  • ULO2 – Ability to apply effective computing techniques to solve real-world problems.
  • UL03- Ability to use appropriate programming language and computing resources based on the complexity of the issues.

Applied Mathematics for Information technology.

  • ULO1 – Develop problem-solving skills.
  • ULO2 – To deal with matrix theory and calculus of variations
  • ULO3 – To deal with linear programming and Fourier series.

Introduction to E Commerce

  • ULO1- 1. To investigate the strategic implications of e-commerce with emphasis on existing companies.
  • ULO2 – 2. To navigate the broad range of positioning strategies available within the e-commerce landscape
  • ULO3 – 3. To develop the ability to quickly and effectively research Internet companies and strategies

Network Topologies

  • ULO1 – Ability to perform diagnostic procedures and troubleshooting techniques to personal computers, portable devices, operating systems and computer peripherals
  • ULO2 – Ability to describe the characteristics of each type of network, along with the advantages and disadvantages
  • ULO3 – Ability to understand the network requirements build a network that suits the requirements.

Computer Programming

  • ULO1 – Ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of modular programming by designing programs that require the use of programmer-defined functions.
  • ULO2 – Ability to learn the basic principles of object-oriented design to solve complex problems.
  • ULO3 – Ability to enhance problem-solving and programming skills in C with extensive programming projects

Web Development and Design

  • ULO1 – Ability to create an Information Architecture document for a web site based on the client’s demand.
  • ULO2 – Ability to construct a web site that conforms to the web standards of today and includes platform optimization.
  • ULO3 – Ability to perform regular web site maintenance (test, repair, and change).

Database Management

  • ULO1 – Ability to define the terminology, features, classifications, and characteristics embodied in database systems
  • ULO2 – Ability to formulate, using SQL, solutions to a broad range of query and data update problems.
  • ULO3– Ability to demonstrate an understanding of normalization theory and apply such knowledge to the normalization of a database.

Object Oriented Programming with Java

  • ULO1 – Ability to explain the steps in creating an executable program for a computer, including the intermediate representations and their purpose.
  • ULO2 – Ability to apply good programming style and understand the impact of style on developing and maintaining programs.
  • ULO3 – Ability to explain the benefits of object-oriented design and understand when it is an appropriate methodology to use.

Data Structures & Algorithm

  • ULO1 – Ability to the understanding fundamental Data Structures including linked-lists, trees, binary search trees, AVL trees, stacks, queues, priority queues, and hash-tables and skip lists.
  • ULO2 – Ability to devise novel solutions to small scale programming challenges involving data structures and recursion.
  • ULO3 – Ability to understanding basic algorithmic complexity.

Business Information Systems

  • ULO1- 1. Research individual computing, networking or storage technologies and explain how they work and their application to the business environment.
  • ULO2 – 2. Describe the fundamental principles of computing hardware, application software, networking and application development.
  • ULO3 - Identify an Information technology related to operational improvement and determine an optimal software /hardware solution.

Mobile Application Development

  • ULO1- Ability to do the basic and important design concepts and issues of development of mobile applications.
  • ULO2 – Ability to Understand the capabilities and limitations of mobile devices.
  • ULO3 – Ability to Deploy applications to hand-held devices.

Network Security

  • ULO1 – Identify different costs associated with design, development, manufacture, use, maintenance, and disposal of vehicles
  • ULO2 – It explains the importance of cost optimization in the automobile manufacturing sector.
  • ULO3 – Ability to carry out a basic survey on vehicle economics and cost studies

Programming in PHP

  • ULO1- 1. Acquaint themselves with the fundamental concepts and programming environment of PHP.
  • ULO2 – 2. Implement object-oriented concepts like inheritance, reusability, and encapsulation.
  • ULO3 – 3. Understand and Design the Database using MySQL

Windows Application Development

  • ULO1- 1. Ability to write Windows Forms applications in C# using .NET Framework
  • ULO2 – 2. Ability to create and manipulate graphical images using Windows GDI
  • ULO3 – 3. Ability to analyze problem requirements in order to understand what type of data and processes are involved in the system.

Digital Logic Design

  • ULO1 -Ability to identify and explain fundamental concepts of digital logic design including basic and universal gates, number systems, binary-coded systems, basic components of combinational and sequential circuits
  • ULO2 – Ability to demonstrate the acquired knowledge to apply techniques related to the design and analysis of digital electronic circuits including Boolean algebra and multi-variable Karnaugh map methods
  • ULO3 – Ability to analyze and implement small-scale combinational and sequential digital circuits.

Embedded System Design

  • ULO1 – Ability to understand various Building Blocks of Embedded System
  • ULO2 - Ability to interpret different communication protocols
  • ULO3 - Ability to understand the basics of real-time operating systems.

Principles of Communication

  • ULO1 – To understand communication using wire and wireless medium
  • ULO2 – To interpret with Digital Communication techniques
  • ULO3 – To understand the concepts of optical and cellular communication.

Learner must score a minimum of 240 credits to be awarded level 5 Diploma.
The learning and teaching strategy for Higher International Diploma in Information Technology are designed effectively & efficiently so as to attain the 240 credits & gain the intended learning outcomes as per the module.

The general approach to enabling the learning process for most modules involves:

  • Case studies
  • Class discussions
  • Presentations
  • Practicals

Due to the wide variety of modules included in this programme, there may be different approaches adopted that are appropriate for a particular module. At the start of each module, tutors will provide a scheme of work which details the module structure, assessment and learning and teaching approaches to be adopted.

The following criteria must be met in order to secure admission to ASTI Dubai. Academic (at least one of the following)

  • Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution or body
  • A Level 3 qualification in Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 years of industrial experience or relevant professional experience.

Scholarship

Scholarships covering 20 % of tuition fees are provided to students.

A limited number of scholarships are available for students with outstanding academic performance and personal qualities.
