ASTI Dubai offers this Higher International Diploma in Automobile Engineering with the approval of KHDA,Govt.of Dubai along with TVET,NQA & QAD. Higher International Diploma in Automobile Engineering qualification is designed to prepare learners for last year of Bachelors’s Degree or a high paying career in automobile industry.This course is practical & skill oriented which makes the student very acceptable to the engineering industry.

Higher International Diploma in Automobile Engineering

Level of Course
HID is a Level 5 qualification (equivalent to the second year of a UK Bachelor’s Degree). There is an embedded level 4 exit qualification.
Number of Credit Hours
Upon successful completion of the course the student will have completed at least 15 units and 240 + credits. On completion of Level 4 the student will have completed at least 8 units and 120 + credits.

The HID is a level-5 qualification delivered over two years, the first year at level 4 and the second year at level 5. If a student opts to take the HID, the student would be eligible for a Higher International Diploma after successful completion of a minimum of 15 modules.

Intended Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
  • Apply the knowledge of technical science, applied mathematics and fundamental engineering in solving engineering problems occurring in automobile sectors.
  • Possess working knowledge of process, design, manufacture, safety and maintenance of major subsystems and technologies associated with automobiles.
  • Recognize, formulate and solve Automobile engineering complex problems using applied engineering mathematics, science and engineering principles.
  • Communicate technical data effectively to various interfaces of an organization such as design, production, quality control and management.
  • Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools and understand the limitations of complex engineering activities then develop the model.
  • Understand the impact and safety practices of engineering solutions in societal, environmental, global and economic contexts.
  • Apply the knowledge of basic principles and modern diagnostic tools in service, repair and subsystems assembly in automobiles.
  • Effective communication by reading blueprint designs and drawing, resource and material requirements according to automobile components manufacturing needs.
  • Engage themselves in life-long learning by recognizing the need and technological changes.
  • Apply engineering and management principles to manage projects in multidisciplinary environments.
The Higher Internation Diploma Level 4 is made up of 120 credits and be completed over a years’ time. The Higher Internation Diploma a combination of both levels 4 and 5 and is made up of 240 credits, this qualification is usually studied full-time/part-time over two years.

The award is made up of 15 units: Mandatory core units are:

Workshop and General Safety

  • ULO1 – Ability to select appropriate tool and process for the required application
  • ULO2 – Ability to understand basic operation in manufacturing and production
  • ULO3 - Ability to maintain a safety procedure and use safety tools and equipment in engineering practice.

Technical drawings with Engineering Graphics

  • ULO1 - Use an appropriate tools to develop technical drawings.
  • ULO2 - Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings.
  • ULO3 - Ability to provide the required information in technical drawing according to process and operation.

IT Application for Engineers

  • ULO1 - Ability to create, select or apply appropriate software tool to improve the performance
  • ULO2 - Develop documents and report preparation skills for various engineering activities such as approval, quotation, design, and estimation.
  • ULO3 - Ability to performance analytical calculation, synthesis and interpret the data.

Mechanical System in Automobile

  • ULO1 - Ability to identify the automobile mechanical system.
  • ULO2 - Locate mechanical system and components on the modern motor vehicles.
  • ULO3 - Understand the technical information, function, and operation.

Internal Combustion Engines

  • ULO1 – Ability to apply the thermodynamics to thermal systems.
  • ULO2 – Ability to understand the fluid flow and heat transfer concepts in engine system.
  • ULO3 – Assess the performance of an internal combustion engine

Vehicle Body Engineering

  • ULO1 – Ability to apply the basic design principle of the vehicle.
  • ULO2 – Ability to draw the performance curve
  • ULO3 – Design the vehicle in safety point of view

Automotive Transmission

  • ULO1 – Understand the purpose of the clutch, gearbox and drive train
  • ULO2 – Compare various types of transmission system

Applied Mathematics for Automobile Engineering

  • ULO1 – Develop problem-solving skills.
  • ULO2 – To deal with matrix theory and calculus of variations
  • ULO3 – To deal with linear programming and Fourier series.

Material Science and Engineering

  • ULO1 – Understand about the Fe & Non-Fe alloys, Non-metallic materials, and modern materials
  • ULO2 – Select the materials for a particular engineering application
  • ULO3 – Understand the various heat treatments process

Electrical and Electronics in Automobile

  • ULO1 – Understand the working of an electrical and electronic systems in an automobile.
  • ULO2 – Ability to handle diagnostic tools and test equipment
  • ULO3 – Understand the necessary of sensors and management systems in an automobile.

Modeling and Simulation of Automotive Systems

  • ULO1 – Ability to develop real-life systems and in order to visualize dynamic behavior.
  • ULO2 – Develop the skill to use simulation packages; to study the response of the system.
  • ULO3 – Apply the simulation techniques to develop and optimize the automobile system and components

Thermo Dynamics And Thermo fluids

  • ULO1 – Advanced knowledge of the principles underlying a range of engineering applications of thermodynamics and Thermo fluids systems
  • ULO2 – Model and analyze various dynamic systems and predict their response to numerous forms of disturbance.
  • ULO3 – Design from first principles a range of psychrometric and heat transfer systems.

Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems

Leaner must score a minimum of 240 credits to be awarded level 5 Diploma.
The learning and teaching strategy for  Higher International Diploma in Automobile Engineering are designed effectively & efficiently so as to attain the 240 credits & gain the intended learning outcomes as per the module.

The general approach to enabling the learning process for most modules involves:

Due to the wide variety of modules included in this programme, there may be different approaches adopted that are appropriate for a particular module. At the start of each module, tutors will provide a scheme of work which details the module structure, assessment and ‘learning and teaching’ approaches to be adopted.

The following criteria must be met in order to secure admission to ASTI Dubai. Academic (at least one of the following)

  • Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution or body
  • A Level 3 qualification in Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 years of industrial experience or relevant professional experience.

Scholarships covering 20 % of tuition fees are provided to students.
